HARDWARE ENGINEERING

Mechanical Engineering

The mechanical domain is where our product and system designs interface with the physical world. Our mechanical team members work very closely with the electrical team to ensure that the critical requirements in the physical domain such as thermal performance and vibration and shock resistance meet with the customer requirements.

For industrial or defence products our mechanical team usually designs the product physical systems and look and feel directly. For more consumer facing products and systems we work closely with the customers product designers and stylists or our sub-contract product designers.

Whether we are working directly or with other parties the process is very similar:

Overall Mechanical Design

  • Mechanical Systems Design including any enclosures and mechanical sub systems
  • CAD/CAM
  • Initial client feedback

Simulations of critical physical systems

  • Finite Element Analysis
  • Computational Fluid Dynamics
  • Thermal Design and Evaluation

External product design

  • Outer skin look and feel
  • Client feedback and improvements
  • Ergonomic design
  • MMI design for usability in intended environments and “beyond-edge” cases
  • 3D printed product dummies for further client evaluation and sign-off

Protype Fabrication

  • Precision CNC Machining
  • 3D Metal and Polymer Printing

Production tooling design and management

  • Extrusion Design and Tooling
  • Injection Moulding Design and Tooling
  • Pressure diecasting Design and Tooling
